Staying in one of our serviced apartments in the city? If you’re in search of some tasty treats to bring back to the apartment to eat, then there’s something on offer for every appetite. This is Liverpool, and where there once was a pub on every corner, there’s now a Tesco. But these are our pick of some of the best delis and independent food shops in town. The legendary Mattas on Bold Street does a huge selection of world food, and the family-run inde has been a favourite for 25-odd years. Bold Street also houses the Italian Club’s two restaurants (the original Italian Club, and the Italian Club Fish), but it’s the former’s delicious ready made meals to take away and authentic Italian ingredients that keep us going back for more.
While you’re feeling Mediterranean, try the new deli in Lunya on College Lane for a mouthwatering selection of Spanish meats, cheeses and tapas to take away (you can also eat in if you don’t fancy your chances of making it back to the apartment with your tasty haul). Or try the excellent deli at the Quarter on Falkner Street for fresh, seasonal, independent local producers. Over in the business district you’ll find the award-winning Delifonseca on Stanley Street, which always has a delicious selection of home-cooked soups, salads, wholesome meals and mouthwatering ingredients.
If you’re up for an adventure, the Hondo Chinese supermarket at the bottom of Upper Duke Street is a noisy, colourful assault on the senses, and home to all manner of fresh, unusual and hard to find Chinese ingredients.

Or, if you’re just in the mood for grabbing a takeaway and putting your feet up in one of our super-comfy apartments, try the takeaways (or eating in) at some of our favourites: Sapporo Teppenyaki, Mei Mei on Berry Street, Etsu, the Mayflower or classic fish and chips at the Lobster Pot, which continues to top polls for Liverpool city centre’s best chippy.
